Chapter Thirty-Eight: The Worries Between Them
Yue Kang returned to the White House, where the old lady personally stood at the door to greet him, with a kind and warm smile on her face. She held Yue Kang's hand all the way, asking about his well-being as if he were her own son. The old lady also ordered the servants to prepare a table of food.
Almost all of the dishes are Yue Kang's favorites, and it's not easy to get such treatment at the Bai family! He grabbed his chopsticks and wolfed down the food, while Old Lady Bai kept serving him more dishes, telling him to slow down so he wouldn't choke.
The old lady had already known about Yuke Kang's ceramics, and yesterday Bai Miao Yun sent someone to report it to the old lady. Today, Bai Miao Yun brought back several beautiful flower vases made by Yuke Kang.
The old lady and the second young lady looked at each other in incredulity after seeing it, without any words they knew what it meant just by looking at the vase.
At mealtime, the young lady was not present. The old lady said she had gone out. The second lady, also known as Yue Kang's wife, didn't say much either, but while eating, her eyes couldn't help but glance at the man who had surprised her several times.
That man ate with a ferocity that was almost frightening, like a whirlwind sweeping away the rain, as if he hadn't eaten in days. Bai Miao couldn't help but smile to herself, feeling a little sweet inside.
After dinner, Yue Kang took Bai Miao Xi back to their quiet little courtyard.
In the past, those servants and maids would only respond to Yue Kang's greetings perfunctorily. Now that Yue Kang has made porcelain, it has spread throughout the Bai family, and they are all very respectful towards him. They also understand in their hearts that Yue Kang has achieved great merit this time, and his status in the Bai family will not be as insignificant as before.
It's still a good feeling at home! Yue Kang walked into his small courtyard with some warmth in his heart.
"I've already had someone boil water for you, you've been tired for so many days, go take a bath!" Bai Miao Xi said with a warm gaze, still wearing a red veil to cover her face. She had already told her sister about everything that happened at the kiln factory today when she returned home, including the Hu family causing trouble and being beaten back by Yue Kang.
"En, okay." Yue Kang smiled wryly, having a pretty daughter-in-law still felt not bad, although he didn't know what she looked like yet. He really wanted to say "little daughter come and help your father bathe", but he dared not say it!
In ancient times, baths were all in wooden tubs, with steam rising from the water. Yue Kang tested the temperature of the water and felt that it was just right, neither too hot nor too cold. He then stripped naked and squatted down into the tub, feeling a light and airy sensation wash over him, as if he were drunk. The feeling spread throughout his entire body, and it truly felt wonderful. Yue Kang closed his eyes and savored the sensation of floating on clouds.
It would be great to become an emperor, at least find eight beautiful women to massage my back for me. Unfortunately, this role is very embarrassing, not to mention the maids and so on, even my wife doesn't take care of me, it's really sad, I can only do it myself.
After Yue Kang wiped his body dry, Bai Miao had already prepared a set of clean clothes for him and placed them on the stool beside him.
Yue Kang put on his clothes and went to the main room. Bai Miao Xi was sitting alone at the table, looking like a white peony that was detached from worldly cares, neither coquettish nor reserved, yet emitting an intoxicating allure from her body.
Her hands were as white as cream, slender and long. She gently fiddled with the teacup on the table, seemingly lost in thought, and didn't even notice when Yue Kang walked in.
Under normal circumstances, Yue Kang would practice calligraphy in the study room during the day. With Bai Miao sitting in the house staring at each other, it was indeed awkward and made people feel uncomfortable. Yue Kang did not want that kind of oppressive atmosphere.
Yue Kang and Bai Miao Xi said a word, then went to the study room. Bai Miao Xi responded vaguely with a "oh" sound, her eyes showing a hint of imperceptible loss.
After Yue Kang left, Bai Miao Xi's mood was very restless and chaotic. Why? She couldn't understand herself. In the past few days since Yue Kang left, his figure that wasn't particularly impressive kept appearing in her mind, as well as his face that lit up with a bright smile when he laughed. Was it due to her gratitude towards him?
When her sister said that he had brought someone to fight with the Hu family, why was she so nervous and worried at that time? She always reminded herself in her heart that he was not just a person trying to tarnish her body, or an intruder who broke into her room, perhaps with this reason, the figure in her heart would fade away.
It wasn't until evening when she couldn't hear his snores that she felt a sense of emptiness, but she wouldn't admit to herself that she had already developed feelings for the man, perhaps it was just gratitude towards him.
Bai Miao may never have known that from the moment Yue Kang blocked the hot water for her, his figure had been etched in her mind, unforgettable.
Bai Miao had been sitting stupidly for a long time, and she didn't know how much time had passed. She raised her head to take a look, and the sky was already dark. She quickly got up to cook dinner, and she really wanted to see that man savoring the food she made with relish.
Yue Kang was also restless in his heart, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't calm down to write. He held his brush and stared blankly, thinking about the strange things that had happened to him over the past few days while staying at the kiln factory, and every day he would think of Bai Miao Xi.
She misses her nearly perfect figure, the way she walks, and the elegant movements when eating. She also wonders whether she sleeps on her side or back every day. When she sleeps on her side, she always leaves a thin shoulder for Yue Kang. When she lies flat, her breathing is very comfortable, and her undulating body shape resembles a mermaid.
Yue Kang's favorite thing to do was to lie down on the recliner every night, close his eyes and pretend to be asleep, snoring softly through his nose, waiting for Bai Miao Xi to think he had fallen asleep and let her guard down.
Yu Kang's nose was still snoring, but his eyes were wide open. He could clearly see all of Bai Miao Xi's movements. When she slept on her side, she liked to press her hands under her cheeks, and when she lay flat, she liked to put both hands on her stomach.
Every time she fell asleep with her hand still exposed outside, Yue Kang would put her hand back under the covers. Yue Kang had always been caring for Bai Miao Xi like a family member, but did he have any ulterior motives? This was something Yue Kang didn't dare to admit, and in any case, he wouldn't force her.
Every time it's late at night, Bai Miao Xi would reach out to touch her own burnt face. Yue Kang couldn't see her expression, but he could only hear the faint sound of suppressed and painful sobbing. Every time this happened, Yue Kang couldn't bear to look anymore, closing his eyes to fall asleep quickly.
The dishes were cooked very richly, and the aroma was so enticing that Yue Kang couldn't help but devour them in big mouthfuls.
Bai Miao used to eat very little, and almost all the dishes on the table were finished by Yue Kang alone. After eating, Yue Kang let out a satisfied burp, and even praised the dishes cooked by his wife, saying they were truly delicious.
In the bedroom, the candlelight flickers.
Bai Miao's eyes were bright and spirited, the flickering candlelight reflected in her pupils, slightly reddened, unspeakably moving. She opened her mouth lightly, "Was that letter written to me by you?"
"What letter? What are you talking about?" Yue Kang looked puzzled, but in his heart he was wondering how she knew.
Looking at Yue Kang's bewildered expression, Bai Miao Xi also had doubts in her heart. "When I was sweeping your study, I saw this paper. The handwriting is exactly the same as the letter, it's not a bad thing, why don't you dare to admit it."
Yue Kang saw the paper in Bai Miao's hand, and thought that it seemed he couldn't be an unknown hero this time. He didn't want to discuss this topic further, "Tomorrow I should go get the antidote from Old Lady."
"Are you resentful that Grandma poisoned you?" Bai Miao Xi let out a sigh in her heart, somewhat unnatural. At first the Bai family didn't believe him, but now he was wholeheartedly doing things for the Bai family.
