Second Brother Inserts Flying Tiger
As the ground temperature drops, the strong winds in the valley become more and more violent. The large helicopter weighing over 10 tons is like a dragonfly in the wind, being disturbed by the turbulent airflow, rising and falling suddenly, left and right.
"What a damn awful place!"
Lieutenant Colonel Kong Zhi Gao muttered under his breath as he pulled the helicopter's control stick with all his might, his right hand tightly grasping the throttle. As soon as they entered the Grand Canyon, Kong Zhi Gao shut down the flight assistance device and relied solely on his own skills and those of his co-pilot to control the helicopter. Behind them, another Ka-27 helicopter of the same model had its two pilots choose the same flying method.
For these four pilots, coming here on a mission was like being in a nightmare.
More than two months ago, Kong Zhigao bid farewell to his wife who came to see him off at Sanya Port and boarded a destroyer to set sail with the fleet to Aden Bay thousands of miles away for an escort mission. This is the fifth escort fleet sent by the Republic's Navy to Aden Bay in two years, and Kong Zhigao participated in the escort action for the second time.
Although life at sea was very hard and he had to leave his wife and one-month-old son, Kong Zhigao did not feel discouraged. After completing the three-month escort mission, he would be able to return to his home country with the fleet and get promoted two years in advance. For a 32-year-old captain pilot, if he could be promoted to lieutenant colonel before the age of 35, his future would be even brighter.
Kong Zhi Gao never expected that just as the fleet was about to return, a group of special forces suddenly appeared on the destroyer, completely disrupting his plan to reunite with his family at home, forcing him to pilot a helicopter and transport those special forces to carry out a particularly secret mission without even a code name.
The commander of that special forces unit and twelve fully armed special troops were in the cabin behind Kong Zhi Gao.
In the turbulence of a rising air current, the helicopter shook violently and the altitude warning device installed on the instrument panel emitted a yellow warning signal. Accompanied by a sharp buzzing sound, Kong Zhigao and the co-pilot on the right simultaneously pressed down the control stick and pulled back some throttle. The helicopter plunged into the dark canyon like a drunken strongman. It wasn't until the yellow warning signal and the buzzing sound disappeared that the two pilots pulled back the control stick and controlled the throttle. Kong Zhigao also took the opportunity to wipe the sweat from his face.
Why fly so low?
Any pilot knows that flying a helicopter in a canyon is definitely to avoid radar, shorten the noise transmission distance, and arrive at the destination in a covert manner.
However, ultra-low-altitude flight is not a strong suit for Hainan Airlines pilots.
Fourteen years in the army, ten years of flying, four years on the Ka-27, Kong Zhi Gao mainly flew over the sea or lake surface, rarely over land, and even less often over mountainous areas. Even over the ocean, helicopters cannot fly at ultra-low altitudes because the calm sea surface can cause visual illusions for pilots, making it impossible to accurately judge altitude by sight. If the radio altimeter fails, an accident is likely to occur. If the sea surface is not calm enough, it must be windy and wavy, with extremely bad flying conditions, and ultra-low-altitude flight cannot be performed.
Flying ultra-low over land is a special skill of army aviation pilots.
Thinking of his wife waiting at home and his infant son, Kong Zhi Gao couldn't help but resent these special forces with unknown origins who could make the colonel and lieutenant general commanding the escort fleet obey them. If an accident were to happen in this godforsaken place, not only would he be unable to return home to reunite with his family, but he wouldn't even have a place to rest in death.
The more he thought about it, the more depressed Kong Zhi Gao became.
His shoulder was tapped by someone, and Kong Zhi immediately switched the helicopter to the deputy driver's full control state, then turned his head back.
"Captain, switch to the red route immediately." The soldier behind handed a handheld computer to Kong Zhi Gao and said, "We must arrive within five minutes. First take us to the road next to the north side of the camp, then use the onboard machine gun to sweep the vehicles inside the camp, but absolutely do not hit this mobile house."
The soldier also specifically pointed out the moving house on the computer screen after finishing speaking.
Looking at the square clearly marked on the screen in front of him, Kong Zhi nodded. "No problem, we'll be careful and arrive in five minutes."
After finishing speaking, Kong Zhi Gao switched the cabin's lighting.
Red light is used both to indicate that a helicopter is about to arrive at its destination and to alert special troops inside the cabin.
"Lao Kong, what's that thing?" asked the co-pilot through the intercom to Kong Zhi Gao.
"Individual soldier computer, I saw it at last year's Zhuhai Airshow, back then it was just a prototype, didn't think it would be equipped to the troops so soon." Kong Zhi Gao shook his head with a bitter smile, "Next, I'll control the helicopter, you operate the machine gun. Be careful, don't hit that mobile home, I don't want to offend those bastards."
"No problem, are you still worried about my driving skills?" After saying that, the co-pilot couldn't help but burst out laughing.
After adjusting the helicopter's operating mode, Kong Zhigao quickly pulled back the control stick and released the throttle. The more than 10-ton heavy object was like a light swallow, in the farewell of the strong wind, it rushed into the night sky along the steep wall on the west side of the canyon.
At this time, Kong Zhi Gao was fully controlling the helicopter and no longer doubted the identity of those special soldiers.
In last year's tri-service joint exercise, Kong Zhi Gao transported a group of special forces to a submarine participating in the exercise. The special forces were equipped with the single-soldier computer that Kong Zhi Gao had just seen. Kong Zhi Gao was originally very interested in electronic devices, and after the exercise ended, he asked several classmates from the Naval Academy who worked at the exercise headquarters about the relevant information. He learned that it was a newly developed single-soldier computer, which was first equipped by several special forces units directly under the General Staff Department.
If the special forces in the cabin came from the General Staff's Special Forces Department, they must have been executing a secret mission under the command of the Chief of the General Staff. Not to mention the captain and the escort fleet commander, even the fleet commander and the military district commander would have to cooperate with them and provide convenience for them.
The actions directly deployed by the General Staff Department are definitely not ordinary.
In the night sky, two Ka-27 helicopters flew one after another, controlling their altitude below 20 meters and increasing their flying speed to over 240 kilometers per hour.
After crossing a small hill overgrown with thatch grass, Kong Zhigao immediately saw the brightly lit construction site in front of him, where an intense battle was underway.
Kong Zhi Gao switched the communication line to the internal communication channel and heard the conversation of the special soldiers behind.
"Major, we're too late."
"Land directly in the camp and draw fire, otherwise Lao Kang and the others will be done for."
"No, can't let the helicopter take risks." Kong Zhi Gao had just felt a pat on his shoulder when he heard the words of the special forces commander in his earpiece. "Captain, fly a bit faster. If things don't look good, you can leave the battlefield. I'll contact you after the battle is over."
Kong Zhi nodded slightly, and without realizing it, a layer of sweat had seeped out from the palms of his hands.
"Lao Kong, you're not kidding, are you?!" The co-pilot was also stunned, just like Kong Zhi Gao.
"Don't ask so many questions, just do our own job well."
After serving as a soldier for 14 years and flying thousands of hours on three different helicopters, this was Kong Zhi Gao's first time participating in actual combat. Although they participated in several drills every year, drills were always just drills and never real battles. It would be strange if Kong Zhi Gao or the co-pilot weren't nervous going into battle for the first time.
The helicopter flew closer and closer, and the battle ahead grew more intense.
At a distance of about 700 meters from the camp, several bullets fell on the helicopter. Apparently, the enemy discovered the approaching helicopter.
As sparks flew everywhere, several bullets hit the helicopter's windshield.
Fortunately, the bulletproof glass had not exceeded its "shelf life", and the small-caliber bullets only left a few marks on the glass without penetrating it.
The crackling sounds kept coming, sparks kept flashing, and Kong Zhi's nerves were stretched to the limit.
He was flying a Hainan Airlines anti-submarine helicopter, not an armed helicopter of the land aviation. Although small-caliber bullets are not a great threat to the Ka-27, just one heavy machine gun can bring it down.
"Captain, descend and steady the aircraft!"
Upon hearing the special forces commander's words, Kong Zhi Gao immediately turned on the green lighting inside the cockpit, pulled back the control stick, retracted the throttle, and stopped the helicopter from moving forward, lowering its altitude.
The cabin door opened and two ropes were thrown out. More than a dozen special soldiers inside the cabin jumped out one after another.
The whole process took about thirty seconds, but for Kong Zhi Gao, these thirty seconds were longer than his thirty-two years of life. During the rappelling, the helicopter had to maintain a hovering height of five to ten meters and could not move or dodge the incoming bullets.
At the same time, another helicopter carrying thirteen special troops arrived at the south of the camp.
The last special soldier left the plane, and Kong Zhigao immediately pulled up the helicopter.
At this time, the co-pilot gave up control and switched the stick to fire control mode. When the altitude reached twenty-five meters and the nose was aimed at the camp, bright flames spewed out of the shooting holes in the aviation machine gun pods hanging on both sides of the helicopter cockpit, and 12.7mm and 7.62mm bullets poured into the vehicles in the camp at a rate of hundreds of rounds per minute.
The airborne troops have dispersed and are advancing on the camp under cover of helicopter machine gun fire.
Kong Zhi Gao pushed the throttle to its maximum position, and must quickly increase the helicopter's flight altitude, leaving the threat area of light weapons.
However, the helicopter's vertical climbing speed is too slow.
"Old Kong, hurry up and pull it!"
The co-pilot was the first to spot the danger, but it was too late.
When the bright flash on the west side of the camp entered Kong Zhi Gao's pupils, he just had time to press the button to launch the decoy flare and push down the control stick. In the instant that he lost consciousness, Kong Zhi Gao knew that his aircraft had been hit, and it was a rocket or a surface-to-air missile!
