Chapter 4: Someone Takes the Lead
The night is dark and windy, just the right time for murder.
In the inky blackness of night, seventeen figures crept swiftly towards the walls of Wucheng Town. They pricked up their ears to listen, but apart from the howling wind, there was not a single sound under the dark sky. Even the soldiers guarding the city couldn't resist the fatigue and were dozing off, leaning against the watchtowers in all directions. This wasn't a border fortress or a strategic pass; it was easy to imagine how lax the soldiers' vigilance was.
Up, with Xu Feng's wave of his hand, the ropes shot rapidly towards the top of the city wall, the hooks at the front end firmly grasping the wall. Xu Feng was the first to grab hold of the rope, and like a monkey, he swiftly climbed up, his feet tapping against the wall several times before flipping over and landing lightly on top of the wall.
The rest of them were all stunned, good guy, Brother Feng's move was flying eaves and walking on walls, as if treading on flat ground, really amazing.
The crowd did not dare to hesitate, and closely followed, one after another climbed up the city wall. Hou Sanma Wu, because of his slightly stout body, was relatively clumsy in movement, and several times almost fell from the rope, fortunately Xu Feng quickly grabbed their rope, with both hands using force, exerting a lot of effort, finally pulling them two up.
"Sorry, Brother Xu Feng." The two climbed up onto the city wall, and with an apologetic expression, rushed to Xu Feng.
"Less nonsense, don't make a sound." Xu Feng hastily made a zipping motion across his mouth.
"Who's there? I've seen you already." A patrolling officer shouted and staggered, rushing over this way.
"Really?" Everyone was stunned, had they been discovered?
"Little peach red, cherry mouth, willow leaf eyebrow, small peony, snake waist, big buttocks..." The other person muttered to himself and walked over, swaying. Xu Feng pulled out a dagger from his thigh with his right hand, just about to make a move, when he suddenly discovered that the guy had his eyes tightly closed, as if he hadn't woken up yet.
What's going on?
He hummed for a while, untied his belt, and a gurgling sound of water flowed out, hitting the city wall below. He came up with a move - "Flying Stream Directly Down Three Thousand Feet", as if the Milky Way had fallen from the sky.
After solving the problem, I stumbled and walked back again.
"Isn't this kid sleepwalking?" Before Hou San's words had even faded, the other person suddenly lost his footing and tumbled down from the high wall with a loud thud. His skull cracked open on impact, and he died instantly.
Everyone looked at me, I looked at them, and they were all shocked, covering their mouths, almost bursting with laughter. What kind of person is this? The patrolling officer is actually a sleepwalker?
However, the other party fell under the city wall and still caused a disturbance. Several officers and soldiers heard the movement and immediately woke up.
Who is it?
However, Xu Feng was faster than them. With a close-range chokehold, he snapped the neck of an officer who had just stood up, and with a flash of cold light, his sharp dagger pierced the hearts of several others before they could even let out a loud cry.
"Hurry up and get rid of these annoying guys."
Xu Feng rushed forward with a wave of his hand, and Xue Cheng and others hurriedly followed. Everyone drew out their swords and knives, chattering and clashing, chopping the defending soldiers like cutting vegetables, thoroughly clearing them out.
Looking at the officials and soldiers who died miserably on the ground, Xu Feng sighed, brothers, when we arrive at the underworld, don't blame me, I was also forced to do so. Born in a chaotic era, if I don't kill others, others will kill me. After experiencing many days of refugee escape hardships, Xu Feng had already seen it very clearly that in this chaotic world, only the strong can survive.
They eliminated more than a dozen garrisoned officers and soldiers, and the crowd followed the high wall down to the city, tiptoeing and searching for suitable prey.
"Knock knock knock, the third watch has passed, be careful with fire." In the quiet night, except for the occasional sound of the night watchman's rattle, there was no other movement.
"Boss Feng, this house looks good, high gate and big yard, there's still light inside, should be some wealth." Xue Cheng whispered to Xu Feng as they arrived in front of a tall-walled mansion.
Just as they were about to take action, a sudden and urgent horseshoe sound rang out, the quiet night sky suddenly became noisy, chickens flew and dogs jumped, children cried and shouted, in an instant, it seemed like the whole village was alarmed.
"Hurry up and hide." Xu Feng, although he didn't understand what was happening, still quickly gave the correct order.
A team of black-clad horsemen suddenly appeared in front of the distant Xu Feng's house just as he was about to take action.
"One of the men in black, who was standing in the middle, waved his hand and dozens of other black-clad figures dismounted their horses in an orderly manner. They came to the high wall, set up a human ladder on their own initiative, stepped on each other's shoulders, and climbed over the wall. In the blink of an eye, they jumped into the courtyard, and with a loud creak, opened the heavy gate from the inside."
Watching this group of black-clad men rush into the courtyard, Xu Feng was shocked, an ominous thought flashed in his mind, could these people be robbers or bandits?
In a short while, the sound of dogs barking and chickens flying came from inside, accompanied by men's and women's screams. From time to time, there were bursts of mournful cries, obviously, someone had been attacked.
"Feng Ge, what should we do?" Seeing the robbers take the lead, Xue Cheng's face was full of unwillingness. These people were numerous and powerful, with skilled hands, and being preempted by them was really not easy to deal with. If they started fighting, it would be hard to gain an advantage, outnumbered as they were.
"After they made such a fuss, the government troops in the city will arrive soon. This time, our mission to collect grain is likely to fail, isn't it? However, we can present a generous gift to the leader."
His eyes fell on the tall and sturdy horses at the gate of the courtyard, and Xu Feng smiled.
"Take action." Before Xu Feng's voice had even fallen, he was like an arrow off the string, shooting out and rapidly charging towards those few bandits who were left outside the door to guard the horses.
"Who's there?" The other side, seeing someone rushing over, hastily shouted in alarm.
"The killer." The cold voice was filled with endless murderous intent, and suddenly Xu Feng made a swift move, a side kick that sent the person who had just spoken flying to the ground. His right hand flashed with a cold light, and his dagger sliced through the air, heading straight for the opponent's neck. With a soft "pffft" sound, the knife was silent, but the blood sprayed out wildly, a deep crimson color, carrying a strong smell of iron, and instantly splattered Xu Feng's body with blood.
"There's someone." The other two were about to shout loudly, when Xu Feng's right hand flashed out with a dagger, and with a "pu" sound, a white light flashed, the dagger fiercely stabbing into one of their chests.
"Look at me." Another one, without waiting to make a move, was split in the neck by Xue Cheng's knife and his head flew into the air with a "whoosh".
"Tie the horses together and leave quickly." Xu Feng guarded the gate to prevent them from chasing out, Xue Cheng and others were excited in their hearts, they had obtained dozens of fine horses for nothing. This time when they returned, it would be a great achievement, and they couldn't help but feel proud. At present, what was lacking in the team was war horses, this year, such things were as precious as gold, and even with money, they might not be able to buy them.
