Chapter 1: Crossing Over into the Three Kingdoms
The scorching sun hangs in the sky, the earth is parched and dry. The poplar trees by the roadside droop their heads listlessly. The crops in the fields are withered and desolate. The originally sparse ears of rice are now infested with locusts, leaving no grains behind. On the highway, despite the scorching heat, there are still many men, women, old and young people supporting each other, heading south along the road. These people have tattered clothes, thin bodies, and pale faces without strength. Along the way, they have suffered countless hardships and endured immense suffering.
"Hey, old man, are you okay?" Seeing an old man suddenly collapse to the ground weakly, a sturdy young man hastily stretched out his hand to support him.
"Starving..." The old man's eyes were lifeless, his face was sallow and emaciated, his dry, cracked lips kept humming.
"Old man, ah, I have half a pancake here..." As he spoke, the young man reluctantly pulled out half a pancake from his bosom, a hard and stiff pancake, it was unclear how long the young man had kept it, probably because he couldn't bear to eat it.
"Give it to me." Before the old man could take it, someone in the crowd rushed forward and snatched the pancake away. But before he could put it in his mouth, another person pounced on him like a wolf, grabbing at it.
"Give me some, give me some, I haven't eaten all day."
"Get out of the way, you bastard, I got here first."
"Give me, give me... I'm hungry..."
The big man who had just grabbed the pancake was quickly trampled underfoot by the crowd, and the pancake was tossed back and forth like an American football, with many people even getting injured in the process.
A piece of cake, the scene caused Xu Feng to be stunned and shocked. These people were all like themselves, fleeing in distress, some had been hungry for several days, when survival was not guaranteed, their primitive wild nature was thoroughly triggered. Just now, a big man who had just grabbed the cake was knocked unconscious by someone with a stone.
Xu Feng shook his head, sighed, wanted to intervene but couldn't, after all, he couldn't just kill these civilians in one breath. He was a modern person, after all. As for how he had crossed over, Xu Feng was also speechless - hadn't he just gotten into a fight? But somehow he ended up getting detained, and then an earthquake happened... Speechless.
He came, so he came. Anyway, regarding this kind of thing about crossing over, Xu Feng wasn't completely ignorant. Having watched so many cross-overs, he still had some mental endurance. So, since he's here, he might as well make the best of it. However, unlike others, people either crossed over into imperial or aristocratic families, with everything at their fingertips, fine clothes and food, surrounded by attendants, living a carefree life. Or they crossed over into wealthy merchant families, with gold and silver everywhere, living a life of luxury. Xu Feng wasn't from an aristocratic family, nor was he from a rich household; he didn't even qualify as a farmer's family. He became a refugee, and right after crossing over, he was a vagrant, fleeing in all directions. Where could he find something to eat? Everywhere was desolate, with thousands of miles of barren land, and starving people all around. If there was food, would so many people die on the side of the road?
This piece of cake was also begged from a kind-hearted family by Xu Feng. Why didn't Xu Feng keep it for himself, but instead took it out to share with others? If he had a truly ruthless heart, he wouldn't have fought for justice in the first place.
Xu Feng supported the old man and continued on his way. The old man was suffering from hunger, and being weak to begin with, he couldn't hold out for even half a day. He died halfway, without anyone paying attention. Passersby at most just gave him a helpless glance, they were too busy to care about others, who would be so foolish?
However, Xu Feng still couldn't bear to leave the old man's body on the side of the road, so he spent some effort digging a hole by the roadside and burying him. The dead are important, and this was a way of showing respect.
"In front of us is a river." As the crowd walked, they saw a small river appear before them. Suddenly, like wolves and tigers, they rushed forward. The wide riverbed was mostly dry, leaving only a thin trickle flowing slowly. The water was murky, filled with filth, and you could see bugs and foreign objects inside with the naked eye. Yet, despite this, everyone still rushed forward like madmen.
Looking at the crowd lying on the riverbank like beasts, regardless of their image, pouring water into their stomachs, Xu Feng let out a slight sigh, licked his dry and cracked lips, and involuntarily took a few steps forward.
He was thirsty and hungry, but he didn't want to die either.
Huh? How did the river water change? Seeing the river water getting redder and redder, as if it had been dyed with blood, Xu Feng, who was about to bend down to drink, suddenly froze, his eyes involuntarily following the river upstream.
"Charge, kill! Don't let the thieves escape!" A loud shout suddenly awakened the people drinking water by the river. When they saw clearly the crowd rushing over, everyone was stunned. A team of officers and soldiers with knives and guns in hand were chasing after six men wrapped in yellow scarves and wearing black clothes. Could it be the Yellow Turbans? Xu Feng took one look at their attire and guessed what was happening.
A dozen or so officers and soldiers sped quickly, and in the blink of an eye they chased to the front of several Yellow Turbans. After a round of sword dancing, three Yellow Turbans were cut down to the ground in no time.
"Haha, this time we've killed so many Yellow Turbans, when we get back the county magistrate will definitely reward us greatly." A leading officer laughed complacently.
"Haha, exactly! This time I got a reward, just in time for me to have a good time at Hui Feng Building."
"Sir, give us something to eat." When they saw the soldiers and officials, these refugees seemed to have seen their saviors and shouted in unison.
"Big brother, what should we do with these refugees?"
"Heh heh, the adults have given orders. Catch a Yellow Turban rebel and you'll be rewarded with 50 taels of silver. These refugees are just enough for us brothers to split the cost of wine. Don't be polite, let's slaughter them all."
"This... doesn't seem right."
"What's wrong with that? It's in the middle of nowhere, and no one is watching. What are you afraid of? Last time Ma Er Gou did it this way, this kid killed more than a dozen refugees and disguised himself as a Yellow Turban rebel, now he has been promoted to Bai Chang."
"You few go back." With a wave of the leader's hand, seven or eight officers and soldiers wielding swords and knives charged over in a rage.
"Officer, have mercy." Before the words had even faded away, a bloody sword pierced through that person's chest with a "pu" sound. Deep red blood gushed out, filled with resentment and confusion. The refugee who had shouted for help slowly fell to the ground.
"Ah..." The rest of the people were scared to death and fled in all directions, but they were already weak from hunger and their legs couldn't outrun the wolf-like soldiers. In an instant, many bodies fell to the ground. Seeing this scene, Xu Feng's anger reached a boiling point, his teeth clenched in rage. The cruel soldiers were slaughtering innocent people, how could he tolerate it? Xu Feng glared with bloodshot eyes and charged forward in a fury.
"Little brat, what are you staring at? I'll send you to hell right now." An officer shouted angrily, swinging his large knife and striking Xu Feng's skull with a powerful blow.
Xu Feng's body suddenly shifted to the side, and with a swift upward motion, his right hand swung in a fist. The wind whistled as his fist flew through the air, and with a loud "peng" sound, his iron-like fist heavily smashed into the opponent's forehead. The officer let out a blood-curdling scream, and his body suddenly tilted to one side, about to collapse to the ground.
Xu Feng made a spinning kick, his sharp right leg fiercely kicking the opponent's neck, making a crisp cracking sound. The originally arrogant and domineering government soldiers suddenly went limp, their heads drooping down powerlessly, their necks actually broken by Xu Feng's one kick.
The others all gasped in unison, staring incredulously at Xu Feng, whose killing intent was soaring. This kid doesn't seem simple after all.
"You" Xu Feng stood proudly on the scene, with a fierce aura emanating from his body, pointing at an officer holding a long gun.
"You stinky little kid, you're quite arrogant. Brothers, let's go together." The officer pointed at him with his hand, and naturally, the soldiers' faces couldn't hold up, but they also felt that Xu Feng was not easy to deal with, so they hastily beckoned to several people beside them, and in an instant, six soldiers surrounded Xu Feng on the spot.
"Big brother, it seems like there's something going on over there."
"Could it be one of our own people."
"Never mind for now, let's get rid of these government troops first. Dammit, coming out to rob a rich household and running into those detestable government soldiers is really unlucky."
Xu Feng's side, with a ratio of 1 to 6, gazed at the opponent's arrogant and disdainful sneer, Xu Feng's eyes rolled around, looking around.
"You stinky little brat, don't think about escaping. Just obediently accept your death and let us brothers finish you off." Seeing Xu Feng looking around, those government soldiers thought he was afraid and wanted to slip away.
"Haha, dealing with you few, I don't even need to use my skills." Xu Feng said with a tough tone, but as soon as he finished speaking, a figure flashed by and Xu Feng actually turned around and ran away.
"My god, only a fool wouldn't run away. I'm alone and unarmed, fighting against six of you with blades in your hands. Do you think I'm an idiot?" Xu Feng cursed as he ran.
"Where are you running?" A soldier quickly caught up with him in a flash.
"Do you still need to run from me?" Xu Feng suddenly turned around, without saying a word, and threw a hook punch that heavily hit the opponent's chin.
"What? Why didn't you run?" The officer was caught off guard, and before he could react, Xu Feng suddenly turned around, causing him to stumble. His feet hadn't even had time to brake when he crashed into Xu Feng's fist, making a loud cracking sound as his jaw dislocated on impact.
"Give it to me." He reached out and grabbed the opponent's large knife, flipped his hand over and swung it down, chopping into the opponent's right arm. Ah, accompanied by a shrill cry of pain, an arm flew up into the air, spinning around.
A bloody rain fills the air, spreading across the sky, reflecting the fierce sun, making it even more eerie and enchanting.
"Ah..." Xufeng was also startled, thinking that he would definitely be locked up again.
"You stinky little brat, watch out or I'll kill you." The remaining few people, once again furiously charged forward.
"Don't force me." Xu Feng retreated while pretending to be scared, "Ah" an 'accidental' kick, Xu Feng seemed to have been kicked and sat down on the ground with a thud.
"Haha, as expected, he's a timid and cowardly weakling. Brothers, let's take him down."
Xu Feng's mouth curled up with a hint of satisfaction, his right hand grasped something from the ground and suddenly flung it upwards. Ah... several nearby soldiers were instantly blinded by dust and cried out in confusion.
"Cut off his feet."
Ka-cha, ka-cha, the sound of slaughter filled the air. Without hesitation, Xu Feng's large knife attacked his opponent's lower body, severing their legs and sending them crashing to the ground. The maimed soldiers wailed in agony, their cries piercing the air with an unspeakable sorrow. Blood flowed like a river, staining the earth crimson, as severed limbs revealed gleaming white bones, making onlookers retch uncontrollably.
