Chapter Fifty-One

  Chapter Fifty-One

For convenient communication, a thousand people's large group is opened, group number: 16014590. Welcome friends to join the group chat.

But it's easier said than done.

I was just about to lead the troops up to fight when I thought: these Viet Cong are also old veterans, we all know this firepower reconnaissance routine... don't they? Besides, if the Viet Cong are hiding behind high ground, who can this firepower reconnaissance scare?

What's more, if the Viet Cong survive this artillery reconnaissance, it will directly lead our army to think that there are no Viet Cong ambushes on this high ground, and then they will be even more off guard... At that time, won't I end up harming my comrades and losing my own life as well?

So I kept a close eye on things and called over Chen Yiy and several others to make some arrangements, then with a wave of my hand the entire team went up to prepare.

Lian Chang waited for a long time but didn't see any movement from my side, so he couldn't help but run over to me and ask: "What's going on? Didn't we say we were just doing a firepower reconnaissance? Can't we just fire a few shots and be done with it? Why is it taking so long?"

"Hold on, Commander! I'll go now..." As I said that, I waved my hand at Wang Shuren and Li Changbin, who were already prepared not far away. They responded with a shout and led their troops forward along the highway.

I carried Wang Kechang with a rifle and ran up to the high ground on the left, found a position in an open area and set up the rifle.

Wang Kechang came up and lay down beside me, then raised his binoculars to look around, and whispered to me: "Report to the platoon leader, no enemy found!"

When I heard this, I couldn't help but laugh. The place we were in was at least over 400 meters away from the Ghost Gate Pass, and it was nighttime too. Although there was a bit of starlight, if the devils or bandits were all disguised and hiding in the bushes, then this guy must have had incredible eyesight to be able to see them.

"Cut the crap!" I said: "Keep an eye on him for me!"

"Yes!" Wang Kechang responded with a voice and didn't dare make another sound.

  。

I raised my rifle and looked through the sniper scope at the highland hundreds of meters away: this was a standard Vietnamese jungle, with trees on both sides and a patch of half-man-high reeds in the middle. Just as Chen Yiyin said, it was a natural ambush site. The reeds could hide people, and if someone hid inside or set up some landmines, no one would be able to detect them. The forest was the escape route; once the situation turned unfavorable, pulling the troops into the forest would make it impossible for anyone to catch up.

Next came Wang Shuren and Li Changbin's two classes, which were seen rushing to the "Ghost Gate" like an express army.

"Hey, you!" Just then Lian Zhang hurriedly ran up and crouched down beside me, lowering his voice to scold, "Didn't you say we were going to do reconnaissance? How did you end up charging in directly?!"

"Drag it out!" I smiled and replied: "This is another kind of firepower reconnaissance, just wait and watch the show!"

Luó Liánzhǎng didn't know what I was up to, but seeing me quickly refocus on the scope, he too didn't dare disturb me and instead nervously watched from the side.

  400 meters.

Two teams of warriors jogged towards the "Ghost Gate"... The number was a bit less, adding up to only twenty or so people. No one would believe this is a large army. So I didn't worry that the lurking Viet Cong would take action against them. Because according to their usual style, they would let the vanguard go and attack the main force behind.

  300 meters.

The grass under the starlight sways with the wind, and apart from the footsteps of the warriors and a few insect calls, everything seems to be normal. However, I feel a killing aura in this tranquility...

It's hard to describe what it feels like, it's like a sixth sense, like someone is staring at you in the dark, and all I can feel is a chill running down my spine, with goosebumps rising up.

Those two Liberation Army classes seem to have felt this too, some soldiers shrinking their heads and necks in a gusty manner... But it's normal, right? Even if you're doing the vanguard, you'd worry about encountering enemy troops, wouldn't you? So I'm not worried that the devils will find any weaknesses.

  Two hundred meters.

Just as Lian Chang and the warriors were staring intently, there was suddenly a burst of gunfire.

Suddenly, more than a dozen dark figures emerged from the grass thickets on both sides of the highway and swept towards the highway in a burst of gunfire... And among them, a female voice shouted in Vietnamese: "Comrades, fight hard, don't let one go!"

  !”

Lian Chang was shocked and shouted: "Damn it, there's indeed an ambush, retreat quickly!"

Of course, there is no need to say more about this. The two groups of PLA soldiers on the highway retreated immediately after the gunfire broke out, and they even fired a few shots into the bushes while retreating... It looked like they were fleeing in a panic.

However, careful people may find that the bullets fired from the grass on both sides are all shot into the sky, and none of the PLA soldiers in the middle of the road were injured or shed a single drop of blood.

Of course, this is very difficult to find in a night with only weak starlight.

If you notice this point, it's not hard to think of the answer... That's right, this is another firepower reconnaissance I arranged, and those dozen or so people hiding in the grass are not Vietnamese devils but Chen Yiyuan's squad.

It's so boring to just shoot guns for reconnaissance, and with the quality of the Vietnamese army, I believe they are already prepared for firepower reconnaissance, so I think shooting guns is just a waste of bullets.

However, the firepower reconnaissance I directed was different. At the moment when the gunfire sounded, the Viet Cong hiding in the grass might also be wondering: "Damn it, which guerrilla team came to ruin our good deeds! I hid well, but they messed up the situation!"

So for them, there were only two options. One was not to fight and continue to ambush, but this had obviously become useless since the enemy had already confirmed that "there was an ambush". The other was to take advantage of the fact that this group of PLA soldiers had not escaped yet, and to fight as much as they could...

The Viet Minh obviously chose the latter, for I saw several men rise up out of the grass on that high ground known as "Ghost Gate".

The rifle in my hand was not a vegetarian, and with a few "bangs", it knocked down several black shadows that had just moved.

Although it was not very clear because of the darkness, the moment they stood up completely exposed their position. This may be why frogs can only see moving things but cannot see still things, and sometimes people are like this too.

"Ten o'clock, submachine gunner!" Just as I had no target in my sniper scope, Wang Kechang shouted a timely warning.

I didn't think much of it and adjusted the angle of my rifle slightly... a North Vietnamese AK gunner appeared in my scope.

  。

Bang! A gunshot rang out, and the Vietnamese soldier fell to the ground.

This time, it wasn't because of his movements, but because of the sparks coming out of his gun barrel... He shouldn't have thought that our army was like a bereaved dog with no power to fight back, or that we didn't have accurate shooting weapons at 400 meters away, so he stood up and continuously swept with his AK.

"Bang!" Another gunshot rang out, and a Viet Minh machine gunner was knocked down by me with just one shot before he could fire two shots.

It should be said that this is Wang Kechang's credit, he discovered him when the machine gunner set up the machine gun and reported his position to me in time. Just as I adjusted the angle, I found him sweeping, and the flames of the machine gun also exposed his position under my sight. Of course, I didn't need to be polite with him, one pull of the trigger solved the problem.

"Bang!" This shot hit the deputy machine gunner.

This time it wasn't Wang Kechang's report that was wrong, it was just that the machine gunner had been knocked down for a while... The deputy machine gunner rushed to grab the machine gun and open fire. I thought, he may not have realized at all that the bullet that killed the machine gunner was fired by a sniper, otherwise he wouldn't be so careless to rush towards the gate of death...

  "Twelve o'clock..."

Just as I was about to adjust my direction towards Wang Kechang's position, I suddenly felt a strong gust of wind blowing over my forehead, and immediately afterwards, I only felt a chill on the top of my head... The military cap was blown far away to the back.

It was only then that I realized I had made a mistake, a very serious one: all I knew was that I was a sniper and that I had a sniper rifle in my hands, but I completely ignored the fact that the Vietcong troops also had snipers and sniper rifles.

And I was so careless that I kept sniping at the same position, so... it wasn't hard for the enemy sniper to determine my location from the muzzle flash or the direction of the gunshot.

However, my reaction was still quick, and at the time I didn't think much of it. Almost in the next second after the hat was blown off, I pretended to be shot and fell backwards with my gun...

  "Get out!"

  "Second row, stand up!"

  ……

Wang Kechang and Luo Lianchang were apparently deceived by my actions, Wang Kechang wanted to rush to my side at the first time, but was pressed down by Luo Lianchang.

  。

From this point on, Luo Lianchang still had some research on sniping tactics. At least he knew that rushing up at this time would not have any effect except for sending himself to death.

Then after a while, Luo Lianchang carefully crawled over and pulled my feet down to the lower place...

At this time I had an impulse to jump up and escape, because I was not sure if I was still exposed to the Vietnamese sniper's gun. What if I didn't fool the Vietnamese sniper or if the sniper was more cautious and gave me another shot on my "corpse", wouldn't I be done for?

To know, the bullet of this sniper rifle is not fooling around, especially now that I'm still lying on the ground. This shot will come over and penetrate my body, not to mention it may also bounce back from the stone under me and shoot into my body again... At that time, I'm afraid my whole body will be smashed!

But I still suppressed the urge and didn't move, letting Luo Lian drag my feet down bit by bit... The sharp stones scratched my back so painfully, what a terrible place this is, it's as if everything is against me. Everywhere else is all rotten branches and mud, but right where I am, there are only rocks everywhere.

But that seems normal, the place I was hiding just now is a big rock, right? I think that rock should have been bigger originally, it's just that the cannon fire made it smaller, and those small parts... are naturally under me.

"Damn it!" Luo Lianchang cursed in a low voice as he dragged him: "You little brat, deliberately opposing me... even after sacrificing so much, you still bring back such a stinky foot to annoy me, how many days have you not washed your feet?"

"Hey! I've sacrificed everything and you're still talking behind my back. Aren't you afraid that I'll haunt you as a ghost?"

"You..." I spoke out in a motionless voice, giving Luo Lianchang and Wang Kechang a big fright. Luo Lianchang stared at me blankly and said: "You... little brat, you're not dead! Why are you pretending to be a ghost and scaring people?"

"Shh! Keep pulling..." I said: "Maybe the Japanese sniper is still watching us!"

"Hmm!" It wasn't until then that Luo Lianchang reacted and understood what was going on. He shook his head in praise, saying: "You really are something, your reaction is quick enough!"

At last, after what seemed an eternity of a minute, I was dragged to safety.

It wasn't until then that I let out a breath of relief. Since I didn't die, it's time to go meet that Vietnamese sniper!
