Chapter 23: On Protracted War (Part II)
Those eyes reflected green light under the moonlight, faintly, and it was impossible to see what shape its pupils were.
But its eyes are not small, if you remove the distance, it should be only slightly smaller than the saber-toothed tiger's, and can basically confirm that it is a predatory animal.
Wang Yang felt a bit hairy, he had clearly noticed his surroundings for a long time, but still hadn't found any animals approaching, and yet they were already within about ten meters of distance.
If it's a leopard, two steps sprint, within three seconds, I can definitely climb up the tree and get rid of myself.
But could these eyes be those of the saber-toothed tiger?
He shifted his gaze and saw that the saber-toothed tiger was still sleeping there.
"Damn! Whose eyes are these anyway?"
Wang Yang held his breath low and turned his head towards the moonlight, but there were no eyes in that direction anymore.
Those two faint lights seemed to have disappeared, and the moonlight shone directly on the withered yellow leaves.
"Terrible!"
Wang Yang immediately realized something was wrong, and while climbing up the tree, he threw a stone down at the base of the tree.
"Bang, bang, bang..."
The stone collided with the ground, producing a dull sound, but it didn't hit anything.
"Where did you hide?"
Wang Yang looked around in a circle, but couldn't see anything in the darkness.
Perked up his ears and listened carefully, but didn't hear any movement.
"Never mind, let's wake up Ratchet first!"
He took out another stone and threw it at the vague figure under the tree.
"Hmmph!"
The tiger was awakened by the crash, sprang up and ran to the tree where Wang Yang was standing, roaring at him.
"What's your yelling for? Hurry up and check around!"
Wang Yang shouted anxiously.
The blade-toothed tiger seemed to have sensed the threat around it as well, and suddenly turned its body, facing the right side with a low growl, its voice deep and powerful, not as arrogant as before, like facing a great enemy.
Wang Yang quickly turned his attention to that side, but there was still no movement on that side, and it was all dark and nothing could be seen.
It growled low for a while, and finally there was movement on the other side. A faint rustling sound seemed to be coming from something slowly backing away, its body rubbing against the bushes.
The sound of its retreat gradually faded into the distance, and calm was restored.
After it retreated, the saber-toothed tiger let out a few more roars at Wang Yang before lying back down to sleep.
Wang Yang looked at it sleeping soundly and felt too helpless. Why could it sleep so peacefully, while he had to be on high alert? Danger was approaching, and he still had to remind it, really treating himself as a sentry?
But the situation is weaker than people, and there's nothing good to say about it. Wang Yang really has to rely on it to protect himself.
He reached into the stone bag and felt around. There were still thirty small stones left. He could call out to it thirty more times.
The night is long, use it sparingly.
Actually, Wang Yang had also thought about it just now. If the Blazing Tiger and that unknown wild beast were to engage in a fierce battle, would it be more beneficial for himself?
But he didn't dare to be careless, in case it was a master who could climb trees, and he would have to pay the price himself.
If it can be determined what kind of animal it is and whether or not it will climb trees, then it's easy to handle.
A night of silence, after using a few small stones to disperse danger several times, the sky finally turned white at the horizon.
As daylight broke, Wang Yang's exhausted spirit was also invigorated, and the idea of escaping rose again.
Although it is also a peak period for animal activity in the early morning, you can see the road and clearly see around, so there is no big problem with safely returning.
He glanced at the saber-toothed tiger, which was still lying seven meters away with its eyes closed, seemingly still asleep.
Wang Yang inserted the stone cone into the trunk of the tree and slowly climbed down, his eyes fixed on the tiger's body.
He descended to a position about four or five meters above the ground and cautiously stopped there, no longer going down.
This high blade tiger can't reach here, it's still a safe area, if you go down further, you will be attacked by the blade tiger.
He paused for about ten seconds and then temptingly dangled his foot downwards to test whether the saber-toothed tiger was pretending to sleep.
The tiger's claws were still motionless, its belly rising and falling in a regular rhythm.
Wang Yang didn't care about anything else at this time, he was too exhausted, having not slept all night. This opportunity, no matter how dangerous it was, had to be tried, or who knew when it would come again?
He crawled down another two meters, very quietly, trying his best to minimize the noise.
Just as he was one meter away from the ground, Wang Yang noticed that the belly of the saber-toothed tiger was no longer undulating, but had shrunk instead.
That's an extremely obvious muscle tension, a precursor to attack.
"Sure enough, pretending to sleep!"
Wang Yang cursed silently and hurriedly climbed up with all his might.
He climbed up, and suddenly the tiger's expression changed, it spread its legs and rushed up angrily.
Wang Yang walked a few steps and came to the tree, sat on the branch, looking at the resentful tiger under the tree, and wiped away a cold sweat.
They say big cats are cunning, and indeed they are. This one is too cunning, it's probably been awake for a while, patiently pretending to sleep, just waiting for me to come down the tree before launching an attack.
Wang Yang waited for more than two hours until the light was sufficient, and the saber-toothed tiger did not leave, steadfastly guarding under the tree.
Hopeless to leave, Wang Yang could no longer resist the heavy sleepiness, and his knee bones ached with a sour discomfort, which was his body's reaction after staying up all night.
Wang Yang climbed up a slightly thicker tree trunk, tied his two legs and branches with leather straps for several laps, fixed the lower body, then used the stone cone as a nail, nailed it to the tree trunk from both sides of the neck, fixing the upper body, so that he wouldn't fall off while sleeping too dead.
He had just closed his eyes and fallen asleep.
When Wang Yang woke up again, the sun had already set and it was almost dusk.
He rubbed his eyes, making sure he wasn't seeing things wrong, and immediately looked down, but the imagined scene didn't appear.
The saber-toothed tiger still shamelessly guarded its place, crunching on the last piece of leopard meat with a rustling sound, extremely despicable.
Wang Yang was speechless, this is going to be a protracted war...
He untied the fixed leather strap, felt his pocket and found that the fruit was gone. He didn't mind, and started eating the mole he had caught yesterday, which didn't taste very good.
It was another sleepless night.
The spirit has arrived, but still needs to be on tenterhooks.
Wang Yang thought for a moment, this isn't going to work, I'm always on edge, while Blade Tooth Tiger is so carefree, sooner or later I'll go crazy, how can we fight a protracted war like this?
Moreover, not to mention this, our own food and water supply is a problem.
He analyzed it and found that the saber-toothed tiger had already eaten all the lynx meat today, so tomorrow it would have to find food again.
As long as I don't sleep tomorrow, I'll be able to catch a chance to escape.
Another night passed and the next morning, Wang Yang wanted to sleep, but he didn't dare to. He mustered up his energy and waited for the saber-toothed tiger to go find food.
The tiger was still crouching there, Wang Yang and others were impatient, picked up a stone and threw it over.
"Stop pretending, I know you're not asleep! Get up and go find something to eat!"
