Chapter Thirty-Nine: Unable to Take Five Steps
There are mongooses, large rats, and possibly even wild cats. The small animals that fit into the wooden barrel trap are too numerous to count, it's a treasure trove.
Wang Yang didn't think much about it and stopped on a slightly higher platform, set up the trap, and then slowly left.
Along the road, came to the fruit forest, and harvested a squirrel.
At this time, the wolf pack still hadn't returned, and it was unknown where they had gone. Wang Yang didn't dare to be careless, as the smell of squirrel blood might spread out and bring the wolf pack back.
He set a good trap, but didn't rush back to the cave immediately. The road back wasn't very safe either, as it had to pass through the territory of the saber-toothed tiger, which was in a bad mood today and best avoided.
He simply climbed up the tree and tied the squirrel to the tree with a leather strap. The wolf couldn't climb the tree, so it couldn't get it.
As for whether it will be carried away by other tree-climbing animals, we can only leave it to fate.
It's different now compared to two days ago when there were hardly any animals in the forest that could threaten us.
Carrying a squirrel corpse with fresh blood is equivalent to shouting loudly during hide-and-seek: "I'm not here."
Being too eye-catching might not be good.
Of course, Wang Yang would not give up on this prey. He planned to go to the area to the left of the fruit tree "one" to see the results.
He left as soon as possible and accelerated continuously under the condition of being careful enough, and arrived at that area in less than ten minutes.
He slowed down his pace when he got here and carefully observed his surroundings.
The wooden barrel really came down, and unexpectedly, a snake was slowly approaching while spitting out its tongue.
The snake was about one meter long, with bright colors and its surface covered with diamond-shaped gray and black scales, very similar to the dry leaves on the ground.
If it wasn't for a careless mistake, it would definitely not have been discovered.
Its head is triangular in shape, very obvious, like the arrowhead of an arrow, with a rounded body and a protruding head that has changed shape.
This snake looks very much like the one that bit Wang Yang last time, but it's absolutely not the same one. Anyway, that one wasn't venomous.
But this one... is obviously a five-step snake.
The five-step snake has many names, and the more formal one is called sharp-nosed boa, while other names include chessboard snake, cassock snake, all of which are quite apt descriptions.
Its body has beautiful patterns, which are actually clever disguises. If it remains still and stays with the dry leaves, people passing by will be crying (i.e., they won't notice it).
With so many names, apart from its wide distribution and strong adaptability, its powerful lethality is also one of its symbols.
There's a joke that illustrates its toxicity well.
A couple went up the mountain to make out, and the girl was bitten by a five-step snake. The boy was scared: "I heard that if you're bitten by it, you can't walk more than five steps, or you'll die."
The nearby hospital was too far away. Faced with a desperate situation, the man had an idea and grabbed a five-step snake, holding its head down to make it bite the woman multiple times.
He wiped his sweat and burst out laughing: "Now you can go to the hospital."
Although it's a joke, it's enough to illustrate its toxicity.
It walked around the wooden barrel at a slow pace, and the small animals inside trembled with fear, making frightened "squeaky" sounds from time to time, occasionally pulling the barrel.
Wang Yang took a look and frowned deeply. He absolutely couldn't let the venomous snake bite its prey, otherwise once the venom spread, he wouldn't dare eat it.
He always remembers that animals bitten to death by snakes are inedible.
He stood up, facing the five-step snake and shouted "Woo Woo" twice, then threw a stone over.
(I updated a small chapter today, next week I won't have much to do, if I update more I'll just be rambling on?)
