Chapter Fifteen: Dividing the Spoils
Hant had been driving around Huang Hanlin's mansion for several laps, and he felt that the gatekeeper of the Huang mansion had already begun to notice his car. Although this car was not Hant's own, Hant still felt a little nervous in his heart. If only he hadn't listened to Zhao Zhi, he should have brought more people with him. In case something happened, there would be someone by his side to block the bullets for him.
When Han Te drove the car to the fourth lap, a sudden change occurred. With several screams, flames and thick smoke suddenly burst out from the backyard of Huang Gongguan's mansion. The guards in the outer courtyard quickly discovered the anomaly and rushed towards the backyard with loud shouts. The maidservants of Huang Gongguan also screamed and fled in all directions. The guests in the front yard were escorted by their own bodyguards, bidding farewell to Huang Hanlin and leaving one after another.
As soon as the fire started at the Huang's house, Han Te immediately parked his car where Zhao Zhi had gotten out earlier and anxiously waited for him. Before long, people were shouting and horses were neighing inside the Huang mansion, causing a huge commotion. Even the neighbors were startled. However, since Huang Hanlin was not well-liked by the public, most people were just watching with schadenfreude, and very few rushed to help put out the fire.
"Thud, thud, thud." Several dark shadows flashed across the outer wall of Huang Gongguan's house, followed by the sound of three heavy objects falling to the ground outside. A figure quickly emerged from the shadow of the wall and hurried towards the corner of the street, with something tucked under his arm.
"Go, go fast!" Found Han De's car, Zhao Zhi jumped on the car. On one hand, he was hastily waving his hands to signal Han De to drive quickly, while on the other hand, he took off his black clothes and revealed the clothes inside. After changing quickly, Zhao Zhi rolled up the black clothes into a ball and stuffed them into a sack.
As they drove past an alley, Zhao Zhi told Hunter to stop the car. He quickly walked to the side of the road and poured a bottle of gasoline he had prepared earlier on the sack, then threw a match over it, and all the evidence turned into a blaze of flames. "Let's go find a lively place to prove what we did tonight," Zhao Zhi said as he got back in the car and took a tie from the back seat to put around his shirt.
"Alright!" Hantong suppressed his smile, tossed a towel to Zhao Zhi, and stepped on the accelerator, speeding away like a bird in flight. According to the plan prepared by Zhao Zhi, Hantong had already made an appointment with several foreign compradors from the trading firms to play cards together, and these people could all testify that Hantong and Zhao Zhi spent the entire evening playing cards with them.
They walked through the streets and alleys, and it wasn't until dawn that the two of them returned home in the dark. Zhao Zhi opened the door without waking up Xie Xiuyun and Xiao Sumei, grabbed the two backpacks from the car, and the two of them quietly went upstairs.
"Wow! We've struck it rich, we've struck it rich!" Zhao Zhi dumped the contents of his backpack onto the bed, and Hante couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. The gold bars, pearls, and silver coins sparkled beautifully under the lamp light.
"I'm exhausted, how many points do you have exactly?" Zhao Zhi rubbed his sore eyes and sat down in a chair with a low complaint. After playing cards with Hunter and the others all night, these foreigners were too good at smoking, making Zhao Zhi's eyes feel dry and irritated.
"It's priceless, I don't know how much these jade pieces are worth, they're really beautiful." Hunter held a celadon handle piece and couldn't bear to part with it.
"Look at you, you've never seen the world." Zhao Zhi scowled and joked, walking over to roughly divide the jade and gold bars into two piles, and then evenly dividing the banknotes by number. "Isn't this fine? You choose one pile, and the rest is mine." In fact, Zhao Zhi had also left some things out, the bag of diamonds and precious stones on his person, he never intended to take them out to split with Han Te.
Hante smiled somewhat embarrassedly at Zhao Zhi's words, and casually pointed to a pile of money. "I'll just take this pile then, it's enough for me to buy a large farm in America."
Zhao Zhi rummaged through the pile of things, separating the banknotes and silver coins. "I won't be using these for now, can you help me store them in a safe deposit box at the Swiss bank?" Zhao Zhi pushed his share of gold bars and some trinkets towards Hunt. As a CIA operative, it should be easy for Hunt to arrange for a safe deposit box at a Swiss bank.
"Now, the wind is tight, these things can't be taken out, let's store them together." Han Te felt the same way about Zhao Zhi's caution and hurriedly put his own share of things into Zhao Zhi's bag.
"Close brothers settle accounts clearly." Zhao Zhi blocked Han Te, took another bag. "Look, this is yours, and this is mine." Zhao Zhi tied a sailor's knot on his own bag, snatched the pearls and gold bars from Han Te's hand and put them all into another bag.
"Ah ha, we're rich now! I just estimated it, if we sell all of these things, we can get at least $200,000!" Hunter patted the two bags on the bed with his hand, his eyes shining brightly. Zhao Zhi secretly rejoiced in his heart, the diamonds and gems on him alone were worth $200,000.
"Huang Hanlin has just taken your tobacco, these days you'd better pretend to look for someone to fight, don't reveal your true intentions." Zhao Zhiwo solemnly reminded Hante, this Huang Hanlin is not a good person to be with, once the truth comes out, Hante and Zhao Zhi will be in trouble.
"Don't worry, I'm the head of the CIA's intelligence station after all. Once I get my hands on the money, no one will be able to take it away from me." Hunter suppressed his excitement and pulled out a cigar to chew on without lighting it. "What do you think Huang Hanlin is doing now? I bet he's crying his eyes out."
"Never mind, anyway the thing is now in our hands, as long as we are careful not to attract other people's attention." Zhao Zhi reached into Hunter's pocket and pulled out a cigar. He had also started to like cigars since being with Hunter. In his previous life, Zhao Zhi looked down on those who smoked cigars, thinking they were just pretending to be elegant and refined, but after coming to this era and facing the poor quality cigarettes, Zhao Zhi finally chose cigars as his favorite.
"Zhao, do you really want to spend your whole life like this? Don't you have any other pursuits? Such as joining our CIA?" Hunter had always been trying to persuade Zhao Zhi to join the CIA. He admired Zhao's skills and brains, and hoped that Zhao would become a formal agent of the CIA, rather than just a mercenary who took money for doing things.
Zhao Zhitu exhaled a puff of smoke, stretched lazily and arched his back, "I'm not a person who likes to be managed, nor do I have any discipline. That's just how I am, and I think it's fine. If your CIA has any jobs, as long as you pay well, I'll help you get them done. Getting paid for work is the best."
For Zhao Zhi's stubbornness, Han Te could only return a cold glance and say nothing more.
