Chapter 8: Hunter is an Agent

Chapter 8: Han Te is an agent

"Wait, there are two more." Zhao Zhi stopped Hunter from entering. "You go to the kitchen first, I'll be right back." Zhao Zhi walked along the corridor and arrived at the door of the room where the two delivery men were still inside. He grasped the doorknob, took a deep breath, and suddenly turned it open. "Whoosh" Before he could see what was happening in the room, everything went black as a blanket covered his head.

William and Murdoch were both soldiers in the British Royal Marine Corps, and today they had been ordered to escort a batch of boxes to the church. Originally, after unloading the goods, they were supposed to return, but Murdoch took advantage of his uncle being the second deputy of the warship and pulled William down to stay with him. He said that he would wait until the next day to play in Shanghai before returning to the warship, anyway, the warship wouldn't leave Shanghai for three days. Thinking of the disgusting mashed potatoes on the warship, William agreed to stay too.

William was not good at drinking, and he only had a small cup of brandy during dinner, and fell asleep early. Merckdo had a very bad habit of sleeping, that is, he liked to sleep with things on the bed. There were no extra rooms in the church, so William and Merckdo were arranged to stay in Henry's room, and Henry's big bed was enough for two people to use.

William had just fallen asleep, but Mork's old habit recurred. He turned over and hugged William in a daze. William, who was sleeping lightly, was immediately woken up by Mork. William knew that Mork had always had this habit, so he suppressed his temper and pushed Mork back. However, after a while, Mork turned over again and stuck to him, making it impossible for William to fall asleep.

William, who had finally reached his limit of patience, wrapped himself in a blanket and fell asleep on the makeshift chair. Zhao Zhi came out of the last room of the pastor's quarters, and the sound of the door closing was slightly louder, startling William awake. William, who was woken up again, was extremely annoyed and got up to go to the kitchen to find something to eat. As soon as he opened the door, he was startled by the strong smell of blood in the corridor. William's father was a doctor, and William had been familiar with the smell of blood since childhood.

Before William finished dressing, and before he had a chance to wake up the sleeping Murdoc, Zhao Zhi arrived. Hearing the sound of the doorknob turning, William quickly came up with a plan and threw off the blanket that was covering Murdoc's body. It just so happened to cover Zhao Zhi's flashlight and also covered Zhao Zhi under the blanket.

William, taking the initiative, grabbed a chair and rushed towards Zhao Zhi. Standing at the door, Zhao Zhi had not yet removed the blanket from his head, and he was backlit, so William could see him clearly in the dimly lit room illuminated by the corridor lights. "Plop", "plop", "plop" - just as William's chair was about to hit Zhao Zhi, the latter suddenly collapsed onto the floor like a boneless person, causing William to miss his target. Before William could turn around and strike again, Zhao Zhi had already thrown off the blanket, and with lightning speed, he stabbed three holes in William's body using his flashlight, and then grabbed his throat with his hand.

"Die," Zhao Zhi said indifferently, and with a burst of strength, he crushed William's throat. Getting rid of William's corpse was no problem, and Merck, who was still fast asleep in bed, was even less of an issue; Zhao Zhi simply swung his dagger once, and everything was settled.

"Alright, it's up to you now." Zhao Zhi walked into the kitchen, took out a bottle of wine, and said in a very calm tone to Hante. He then carried the wine bottle and wandered around each room. He was looking for something that caught his eye, including cash and some small trinkets. The people Hante brought were clearly very disciplined, they didn't wander around the rooms like Zhao Zhi did, each person had a different task.

The bloody sheets were packed into bags and taken away, the blood on the floor was washed very clean, anything with bloodstains was well concealed, if it couldn't be concealed, it was taken away. If not for the lingering smell of blood in the air, it would have been impossible to tell that six people had just been killed here.

"Do you like this cigarette case?" Seeing Zhao Zhi playing with Henry's gold-plated cigarette case and lighter, Hunter walked over and handed Zhao Zhi a cigar. "They've made secret marks on their things, if you like it, I'll buy the same one for you tomorrow." What Hunter said was right, it wasn't worth getting worked up over these small things. Zhao Zhi smiled faintly and put the things back in their original place, "I just remembered, I used to have a cigarette case like this too."

"Mr." Ah-Dai, with both hands covered in blood, came to find Hunter. "Henry has confessed, the goods are all stored in the basement. But he refused to say the password for the safe, we can't open it." Ah-Dai bowed his head to report to Hunter the result of interrogating Henry.

"Aren't we just after their goods? Why do we need to open the safe?" Zhao Zhi asked without thinking, he didn't want to be kept in the dark.

"Henley's safe has a list of arms dealers within China, I need that list." Hunt looked at Zhao Zhi with a smile on his face, without any displeasure, as if he had already taken Zhao Zhi as one of his own. Of course, Zhao Zhi would not be bought off by Hunt's few words, and the corner of his eye noticed that Hunt's right hand was holding a wine glass, while his left hand was still tucked in his pocket.

"I almost forgot, now that you have the list, won't your business be able to expand?" Zhao Zhi pretended to be suddenly enlightened and patted Han Te's shoulder forcefully, completely ignoring the astonished gaze in Ah Dai's eyes. Zhao Zhi placed his hand on Han Te's shoulder, with the sharp knife in his hand pressing against Han Te's neck, coldly asking him, "Alright, now you can tell me, what exactly do you do?"

"Alright, you win." Hunt pulled out a pistol that had already been cocked from his pocket, a compact Browning Lady. "Can I have a smoke?" Hunt asked Zhao Zhi while holding up a pack of cigarettes. This wasn't anything unusual, but the sly look in Hunt's eyes was caught by Zhao Zhi who had been paying close attention to him. Sure enough, Zhao Zhi found a cigarette in Hunt's pack that could shoot out a poisonous needle. The group of people Hunt brought with him were comparable to the so-called "cleaners" Zhao Zhi had encountered in his past life. With the compact pistol and the poisonous needle-shooting cigarettes, Hunt's identity was already obvious.

"Alright, alright!" Hunter raised his hands high, allowing Zhao Zhi to check if he had any more weapons on him. "I'm not British, I'm German. You should be able to tell from my name alone. They're all British spies, and I'm here for the sake of my country - Great Germany."

Zhao Zhi smiled strangely, casually waved his arm, and with a "whoosh" sound, the shirt on Hunter's body was torn open, but there was no wound. "If you deceive me again, my knife will cut an inch deeper."

"I'm telling you, I'm telling you," Hunt said, staring at the sharp knife in Zhao Zhi's hand, and pleadingly hugged Zhao Zhi's arm. "I am an American, I am a CIA operative." Seeing that Zhao Zhi seemed to not believe him, Hunt took off his leather shoes, pried open the heel from inside, and pulled out a badge. "This is the badge given to me by the CIA, with my operative number on the back."

Zhao Zhi took over the badge with a mixture of trust and doubt, and indeed it was the CIA's White Eagle emblem, with the number on the back being: 9527.
